Narrative Summary:
The STC Sound kit has been
revised to bring it more into alignment with the Rhode
Island Grade Span Expectations for science. Since light and
sound are both forms of energy, it makes sense to combine them
into one unit which describes that energy is
needed for change to occur in matter and
energy can be transferred or transformed
(both RI statements of enduring knowledge).
In addition, light and energy share
many similar properties in that:
-
Both can
be described as waves
-
Both have
frequencies
-
Both can
be reflected, bent or absorbed
-
Humans
can hear only a portion of possible sound ranges and see only
a portion of the light spectrum
-
Our eyes
and ears can be damaged by overexposure to strong sounds or UV
light
